What Is ABA Anyway?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-backed approach rooted in understanding behavior. Developed from the pioneering work of John Watson and B.F. Skinner's ABA focuses on observable behaviors rather than internal thoughts.

Behavior analysts study what happens before a behavior (antecedent) and after it (consequence) to identify the reasons behind it. Once the "why" is determined, strategies can be applied to help individuals learn new skills and achieve better outcomes.

For our young learners, reinforcement is often used to strengthen desirable behaviors, making them more likely to occur in the future.

Examples of Challenging Behaviors

ABA therapy utilizes the least restrictive methods necessary to reduce challenging behaviors that hinder a child's quality of life and learning. Safety is our top priority, ensuring that behaviors are de-escalated as quickly and safely as possible.

Center-Based ABA Therapy

Center-based services offer children a structured, distraction-free environment where they can focus on skill development. This setting allows for observation, interaction, and play with peers under the guidance of trained behavioral professionals. Each child is paired with a dedicated behavior technician who works one-on-one to build a positive relationship and help the child reach their goals.

These sessions create social situations tailored to the child's individual needs, helping them practice social skills that are challenging. Center services are also ideal for preparing children for school, community, or social settings, as well as supporting learning during breaks from school. Additionally, quality center-based ABA therapy includes parent training, ensuring that skills transfer effectively to the child's natural environment.
